Description

The last of the raw illustrations (and one of my absolute favourites) from my Final Year Project (FYP), for my Diploma in Communication Design at Temasek Polytechnic.

Was under really tight deadlines on top of me trying to complete other important non-school things (drawings for university portfolio applications, an art test for a game internship) - all due at the same time, so I decided I'd sacrifice the quality of my FYP because I could not afford to sacrifice the quality of my other tasks which concerned my near future. So while I usually appreciate critique, I am not very open to them for this project given how stretched I was at my limits (mentally & physically) at the time and I probably already know what I could've improved on had I had less things going on. Also, this was my first time doing SO MUCH lineless painting, a technique/style which I am not proficient at yet, but I wanted to use this project as an opportunity to practice (which is a bad idea WHEN YOU'RE BUSY WITH SO MANY THINGS).

On the bright side, I got my happy ending :D - I've been accepted into BOTH the game internship AND DigiPen's BFA in Digital Art & Animation! Meanwhile this FYP received a B grade, which is also not bad given all the things going on!! QvQ Most of my life I had been a sheltered & overly-obedient child, afraid to think for myself or fight for my own destiny against my parents' wishes... so having to put extra stress on myself to work towards my dreams was a period of much uncertainty and burnout, but I'm super glad everything worked out. ^^;

"Lone Wolf: The Stigma of Solitude" is an illustrated story project, a representation of my personal struggle with loneliness, research and observations of how others found happiness in solitude (being alone), which is often confused with loneliness. Using the “lone wolf” metaphor, it aims to explore and clarify the differences between solitude and loneliness, in hopes of eradicating the stigma surrounding solitude, while encouraging people to balance solitude with social activity to live a fulfilling life.

Solitude is a choice, to be alone for self-awareness and reflection. Loneliness is imposed on you by others.

The story follows The Kid, who, sick of being a victim of loneliness, decides to embrace solitude as part of his life, against the societal notion that alone time is bad and one would always need to be around others to be happy. He goes on a journey of self-discovery, eventually befriending other loners like him and learning that humans need to balance solitude with social activity to live a fulfilling life.

I keep telling myself to type shorter descriptions because of how tired I am of my work, but that's not happening. :XD: I keep thinking I should type more so as to minimise confusion from my viewers later on, which would lead to more questions and such... but BLARGH. I mean I welcome questions and comments, it's just... me that gets socially drained easily sometimes, especially for a project that burned me out so much creatively x'D
