A Little Voice (Anti-Drug Poetry competition 2011)
Caught in this twenty-first century rat race,
Everyone is trying to ace
And win in the race of wealth and honour,
Sometimes at the expense of law and order.
Some have taken drugs to relieve their pain,
But must I follow them in vain?
How fooling drugs make us believe
That sorrow and pain can be relieved.
Ruined lives and damaged bodies
If we befriend them and make them our buddies.
Never will the sky look clear and bright
As our loved ones lose their joy and pride.
It's not easy to resist
If the temptation for drugs persist.
With nothing else, but one little voice,
A strong and determined "NO" is the only choice.
